David Ferrer takes on Kei Nishikori today in the fourth round of the 2013 Sony Open in Miami (15:00 GMT start).
Ferrer has had a pretty easy ride so far at the 2013 Miami Masters. His third round clash with No. 32 seed Fabio Fognini on Sunday was his first match of the competition. Ferrer flew out of the gates against the Italian, extending his head-to-head lead against him to 6-0 with a comfortable 6-1 7-5 win.
The world No. 5 will now take on Nishikori in the last sixteen. The 23-year-old Japanese star met Xavier Malisse on Sunday, clinching a 6-2 7-5 triumph off of the back of a solid serving performance.
Previous meetings indicate that this meeting between Ferrer and Nishikori could be a great one. The two players are tied at 2-2 in their head-to-head history, with Nishikori defying the world rankings to beat the dogged Spaniard.
If anyone is the favourite here it’s Ferrer. The third seed was only narrowly beaten in his two losses to Nishikori and has started the season as the sharper player, picking up two ATP titles in the process.
Prediction: Ferrer in three.
