Roger Federer To Miss Rogers Cup

Roger Federer has announced that he will not be taking part in the Rogers Cup in Montreal as he is focusing on being at his best for the US Open.

World number two Federer, who was beaten in the Wimbledon final by Novak Djokovic earlier this month, said: “I am disappointed that I won’t be playing in Montreal because it’s a tournament and a city that I really enjoy and has incredible fans. I hope to be back in the future.”

Meanwhile, Vasek Pospisil was fortunate to survive a tough encounter against Yen-Hsun Lu at the BB & T Atlanta Open this week.

The Canadian, who is the second seed at this week’s tournament, eventually edged past the veteran Taiwanese player 6-4 6-7 6-4 to seal his place in the quarter-finals

“It was tough conditions,” said Pospisil.

“I’m just happy to get through somehow. It was more of a mental struggle, but I pulled through. I’m thrilled I’m through to the next round.”
