Maria Sharapova takes on compatriot Nadia Petrova tonight in the fourth round of the 2012 US Open (00:00 BST start).
Sharapova has been in sensational form in the early rounds of the US Open. She hasn't had much success at Flushing Meadows since making her return, but has lost just seven games on her way to the fourth round.
“I expected her to play a big, solid match," Sharapova said after her 6-1 6-1 dismissal of Mallory Burdette in round three.
"She came out, she has pretty huge groundstrokes, and she likes to go for it. My opponents have been quite different last few rounds. She's certainly somebody who could be dangerous if you give her the time to do what she likes to do. Overall, I was happy with the way I played.
Sharapova may be in for her toughest match yet, as Petrova also hasn’t dropped a set this week. She’s been up against some very capable opposition already, including fifteenth seed Lucie Safarova, who she beat 6-4 7-5 in round three.
This clash could be close, but look for Sharapova to advance to the quarter-finals.
Prediction: Sharapova in three.
