Roger Federer takes on Tomas Berdych tonight in the quarter-finals of the 2012 US Open (01:30 BST start).
World No. 1 Federer was spared from playing a fourth round match at the US Open earlier this week as America’s Mardy Fish withdrew from the event on medical grounds.
Federer has made smooth progress throughout the tournament, and perhaps could have benefited from a stern test against a player of Fish’s calibre.
His opponent tonight is enjoying the best US Open of his career. Berdych's achievement of reaching the quarter-finals is perhaps long overdue, as the Czech is one of the most dangerous hardcourt players when he’s at his best.
He beat Nicolas Almagro 7-6 6-4 6-1 in round four.
Berdych is hoping to cause one of the biggest upsets of the competition later today and Federer could be in for his first serious test in New York.
The popular opinion is that the Swiss legend will prevail, but there could be drama in the Arthur Ashe Stadium when these two forces collide.
Prediction: Federer in four.
