Agnieszka Radwanska takes on Anne Keothavong this afternoon in the second round of the WTA Doha Open.
World No. 6 Radwanska is widely seen as one of the favourites to win this year’s Doha Open, and it will be interesting to see what she can do this week. She finished the 2011 season incredibly strongly and has started 2012 reasonably well, despite not quite managing to win a title so far this year.
Having been seeded, she makes a start to her Doha campaign today against Keothavong, who is ranked just inside the top hundred and isn’t expected to make much of an impact this week.
Still, she is a resilient opponent, and she showed her ability to compete at a very high level by defying Austria’s Tamira Paszek 7-6 7-6 in round one.
Whether or not the qualifier will be able to hold her own against Radwanska is a different matter, but the early signs are fairly encouraging for her.
On paper, this looks like it will be a routine win for the Pole, who should be able to finish the matchup in straight sets. The conditions in Doha aren’t particularly easy to deal with for many of the players though, and Keothavong may benefit from having more time to acclimatise. Even so, Radwanska should be able to work around this and earn her place in round three.
Prediction: Radwanska in two.
