Roberta Vinci takes on Maria Joao Koehler today in the second round of the Estoril Open (11:00 BST start).
Vinci avenged her Monterrey defeat on Monday at the Estoril Open, defeating Nina Bratchikova 6-1 1-6 6-4 to earn her place in round two.
The top seed had to dig deep for the win, but she’ll be glad to have eventually levelled her head-to-head record against Bratchikova at 1-1.
"I'm the No.1 seed but it's such a tough draw here, so I'm taking it step by step and just trying to do my best," said the Italian afterwards.
"Of course I hope to win the title, but I'm just taking it match by match. I'm feeling confident though. I'm really enjoying my tennis now."
Vinci will now take on Maria Joao Koehler for a place in the quarter-finals.
Koehler, who defied Ayumi Morita in round one in straight sets, 6-1 7-5, is an exciting youngster, and as the world No. 227, won’t be playing with the weight of expectation on her shoulders.
She has a big opportunity here to make a name for herself today, but that said, it will take a huge performance to see her past Vinci.
Prediction: Vinci in three.
