Santos playmaker Ganso, who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs, has been blasted by his own president after saying he would like to play for Sao Paulo. The 22-year-old, who during the summer transfer window has been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United, had said he would be keen on playing for Santos’ San-Sao neighbours and rivals. And Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has hit out at the Brazil international, who was booed by his own fans during Saturday night’s has 2-1 win over Palmeiras. “Fans must be respected. When a theatre actor goes onstage, he or she can receive applause or boos. In football too, this is natural,” Ribeiro told Lancenet. “[The fans] came to me and they were very upset with the player’s statement.” Ganso has hit back at the outspoken Santos president, however, later telling ESPN Brazil: “It was something that the president should not have done. “Santos decide what they want and I have to obey.” The midfielder, who has also been linked with Tottenham, added: “I have a contract with Santos, now let’s see if I finish the season or not. “I am fine in my head and I want to see the Peixe winning.” Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues was last month quoted as saying that Ganso did not want to play for the Brazilian outfit anymore. Rodrigues had also stated that Santos would not block a potential move should clubs firm up their interest before the summer transfer window closed.
