Rising prospect Nelson Velázquez registered his first career MLB home run in the Chicago Cubs 5-2 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday at American Family Field.
The 23-year-old Puerto Rican made his MLB debut last May but has not hit a home run in the big leagues yet despite his stellar power numbers throughout his minor league career.
Velázquez recorded 20 home runs between Double-A Tennessee and Single-A South Bend last season while adding another nine homers in 26 AFL games.
In the third inning against the Brewers, Velázquez displayed that raw power with a 418-foot drive to left field which generated at 108.3 mph exit velocity and gave the Cubs an early 1-0 lead.
However, the Cubs were unable to put the defensive screws against the Brewers as catcher Victor Caratini hit a walk-off three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning to lead Milwaukee to the win.
