Freeman, Paredes named as NL and AL Players of the Week
Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman and Tampa Bay Rays Isaac Paredes have been named as the MLB Players of the Week for the National League and American League, respectively.
Freeman, who inked a six-year $162 million deal with the Dodgers in March, has been playing superbly this past week, going 11-for-25 with two homers, a triple, two doubles, 11 RBIs and a 1.373 OPS over six games.
It was his sixth NL Player of the Week award. Freeman won the award five times, all with the Atlanta Braves.
Not to be outdone was the Mexican sensation Paredes, who went 11-for-19 with five homers, two doubles, nine RBIs, and 2.093 OPS over five games this week, highlighted by the seventh three-homer game in Rays franchise history on Tuesday.
Paredes entered the week with five homers and .647 OPS through 87 plate appearances this season but he doubled his home run total and added 281 points to his OPS by the week’s end to secure the AL Player of the Week.
