Garcia & Maton help Houston Astros beat Texas Rangers & make history

Venezuelan starter Luis Garcia and reliever Phil Maton etched themselves in the MLB record books in the Houston Astros 9-2 triumph over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday.

This after the Astros duo became the first teammates to record immaculate innings in one game. Garcia and Maton joined New York Yankees starter Nestor Cortes as the only players to register an immaculate inning in the majors this season.

“I was talking to the guys (in the dugout) and then the guys erupted, and I said what happened,” said Garcia who put Texas’ at bay in the first six innings.

Garcia fanned nine without a walk over six innings while limiting the Rangers to only two runs and four hits. He had a red hot streak of five straight strikeouts that started with his immaculate second inning.

It was also the 106 recorded immaculate innings in league history. Both pitchers received authenticated baseballs from their immaculate innings after the game.
