Pirates’ Jose Quintana attracting massive trade interest

Published on

Left-handed starter Jose Quintana is drawing significant interest in the market as the trade deadline nears following a noteworthy performance against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Quintana pitched five innings of one-run ball to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-2 upset win over the Yankees.

According to MLB insider Jon Morosi, Quintana’s trade value is increasing with the Toronto Blue Jays among the squad expected to vie for the services of the crafty Colombian.

“Pirates LHP Jose Quintana is among the most popular pitchers on the trade market right now, sources say, especially after last night’s win over the Yankees. The Blue Jays are one possible landing spot due to Kikuchi’s struggles and Ryu’s injury,” Morosi said.

The Blue Jays have been especially active this summer, inking former All-Star closer Sergio Romo last month before picking up Frank Banda earlier this month.

A free agent after this season, Quintana has a 2-4 record in 16 starts. In 81 innings, he has tallied a 3.33 ERA and 1.284 WHIP with 74 strikeouts against 25 walks.
