Rookie OF Gonzalez on injured list with back problems

The San Francisco Giants have placed rookie outfielder Luis González on a 10-day injured list after the Mexican missed his second straight game.

González received an MRI scan on Thursday that revealed a lower back strain, an issue he referred to as a chronic strain.

The injury comes on the heels of a spectacular season for the 26-year-old who has been one of the most consistent performers at the plate for the Giants. Currently, González norms a batting line of .302/.361/.447.

“It’s kind of stiff. I woke up, got out of bed and was feeling OK. Then I started moving around and it just stiffened up on me. I did everything I could to loosen it up yesterday and I couldn’t, so today, I’m kind of feeling it,” González revealed.

With González out, the Giants will now turn to the 28-year-old Donovan Walton to take his spot in the next few games. Walton made 58 plate appearances for the squad this year.
