Tatis Jr.’s return to action from injury still up in the air

Fernando Tatis Jr.’s return to the San Diego Padres is still up in the air as the MLB season hits the halfway mark.

The 23-year-old Dominican shortstop has been sidelined throughout the 2022 MLB season after suffering from a wrist injury and it looks like it will remain that way for the next couple of weeks.

In an interview, Padres manager Bob Melvin said that Tatis Jr.’s progress recovery is still behind following an MRI scan last week.

“He is still behind the level of recovery progress. It is more we’re not even there yet. He’s been doing shortstop drills, throwing some throws to first base and he’s doing a lot of conditioning trying to get as active as possible,” Melvin added.

Tatis Jr. will have his wrist evaluated next week as the Padres hope that their star shortstop return in time for the playoffs.

Currently, the Padres are sitting comfortably in the second spot of the Western Division of the National League with a 30-18 (win-loss) record.
