The Boston Red Sox have made its first splash in the trade market after acquiring Dominican outfielder Abraham Almonte from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.
Almonte has been on the Brewers lineup on a minor league deal for quite some time. He will be joining the Red Sox’s Triple-A affiliate in Worcester.
In more than 1,300 career plate appearances for the Mariners, Padres, Indians, Royals, Diamondbacks, Braves, and Brewers, Almonte has recorded a slash line of .234/.302/.374.
Elsewhere, the Minnesota Twins signed another Dominican in Michael Feliz to a minor league contract.
Feliz was designated for assignment by the Red Sox earlier this month but rejected an outright assignment to test free agency.
The 29-year-old Feliz has seen big league action in the past eight years, with his best season coming in with the Pirates in 2019 when he pitched 56 1/3 innings of 3.99 ERA in addition to an 11.5% walk rate.
