Yankees, White Sox among teams interested in trading for Jose Quintana

Published on

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jose Quintana is reportedly attracting interest from the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.

The 33-year-old Quintana has improved significantly after being traded by the White Sox to cross-town rivals Chicago Cubs in a 2017 blockbuster deal involving Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease.

Playing for the Pirates, Quintana has exceeded expectations, recording 19 turns and 97 1/3 innings across 68 games.

Although he has not been relied on as a prototypical innings dynamo, Quintana has been generally effective, posting a 3.70 ERA on top of his 20.7% strikeout and 11.1% pitching rates.

Besides the White Sox, the Yankees are also familiar with Quintana as the Colombian star played for its minor league team for three years before leaving as a free agent in 2011.

Quintana is expected to draw more interest as the MLB trade deadline nears. Currently, he has a $2MM base salary with roughly $800K of which remains owed.
