Jordan Clarkson to make his World Cup debut

Utah Jazz shooting guard Jordan Clarkson might make his debut at a World Basketball Championship in 2023. The 30-year-old has already had a decent NBA career starting in the West with the Los Angeles Lakers, making a transition to the East for the Cavaliers, and eventually switching back to the Western Conference with the Utah Jazz. Clarkson’s affinity with the Philippines comes from his mother who is of partial Filipina descent.

His endeavour with the national team dates back to 2011 when there have been talks in regards to his eligibility to play for the Philippines. However, after several unsuccessful attempts to join the Asian squad, Clarkson made his debut for the archipelagic country seven years later, in 2018. He eventually led the Philippines to a fifth-place finish in the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Clarkson made history this season alongside rookie Jalen Green to be the first two players of Filipino descent to share the court at the same time.

There are also numerous discussions with Kai Sotto who is renowned for his days in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). With players like Clarkson and Sotto, the Philippines surely increase their chances of making a decent performance in the World Cup next year. The group stage is yet to be announced as the final draw will be held in Manila in March 2023.
