Mexico will host the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship, which will take place between June 6 and June 12, 2022. A total of 8 national teams will battle for the glory in Tijuana as apart from the host, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Puerto Rico will do their best to conquer the U18 Americas basketball. This will be the first edition of this tournament since 2018, as the one in 2020 was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic in both North and South America. The top 4 teams will book their tickets for the
2023 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary.
Unsurprisingly, the United States is the most decorated national team with 9 Championships, 1 silver medal, and 1 bronze medal, finishing in the top 3 in each one of the competitions so far. Argentina and Puerto Rico are the other teams who have managed to win the tournament in the past as the Argentinians did it back in 2008, while the “12 Magnificos” surprised everyone in 2002. On the other hand, Mexico’s top result came in 2012 when they finished 5th in the final standings.
