Shareef O’Neal and Scottie Pippen Jr. shine for Lakers

Published on

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, the sons of the legendary NBA Hall of Famers Shaquille O’Neal and Scottie Pippen signed with the LA Lakers for the Summer League. Scottie Pippen Jr. signed a two-way contract with the team as he will spend some time with their affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

Shareef O’Neal has been playing with UCLA and LSU, but his health issues and the fact that he’s fairly injury-prone have taken their toll on his career so far. The 22-year-old averaged 2.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 0.1 assists across 14 appearances for the Tigers this year.

On the other hand, Scotty Pippen Jr. has put up big numbers for Vanderbilt throughout his first three years in college. Playing as a point guard, he averaged a career-high 20.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists back in the 2020/21 NCAA season, while leading his team to a 19-17 record in the following campaign.

Both players took the floor in LA’s 100-66 win over the Miami Heat. Scottie Pippen Jr. finished with 14 points on a 3-9 shooting from beyond the arc, while Shareef O’Neal ended up with 6 points and 6 rebounds in his 14 minutes on the court.
