Sixers develop plans for a new $1.3 billion arena

The Philadelphia 76ers announced plans to make a new home ground. The $1.3 billion arena will be situated in Center City which includes the central business district and central neighbourhoods of Philadelphia.

The Sixers now play their matches at the iconic Wells Fargo Center that officially seats 20,478 people. Being opened in 1996, it hosts matches in the NBA, NCAA, NHL, as well as indoor NLL lacrosse. The new home ground is expected to be able to seat even more people and host thousands of events throughout the year.

The arena will undergo construction work across the next couple of years as the plans are that it will be ready to use for the 2031/32 NBA season. The ideas further include supporting the city’s economic growth and long-term sustainability.

The managing partners of the Philadelphia 76ers, Josh Harris and David Blitzer, bought the team from Comcast Spectator back in 2011. Their American sports and entertainment company has been founded in 2017 and some of its assets include the PHI 76ers, the NJ Devils, Crystal Palace FC, and Prudential Center. Harris and Blitzer have quite a revolutionary mind as they want to build a modern arena at an interactive place in Philadelphia.
