The Drew League – a hidden gem in Los Angeles

The Drew League was founded back in 1973 by Alvin Wills as he believed that it might help young men and women learn valuable life lessons with the help of basketball. So far, many legendary athletes have graced the Drew floor including Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Paul Pierce, and James Harden.

LeBron James made his return to the Drew League on July 16th as he dropped 42 points and grabbed 16 rebounds along the process. The “King” made his first appearance since 2011 which brought the pro-am League back into the spotlight during the offseason.

Other NBA stars who took part in the Drew League this season were the Hawks duo – Trae Young and John Collins and Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan.

Young performed spectacularly and the talented point guard finished off with 22 points, seven assists, and seven steals, while the 24-year-old Collins power forward drained a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. However, the latter also fouled out which further underlines the intensity of the game.

The Drew League is certainly a slightly forgotten hidden gem in Los Angeles but it allows us to watch our favorite basketball figures playing alongside amateurs, thus popularizing basketball during the break in the NBA.
