Titanes de Barranquilla suffers huge upset to Cali

The top favorite for the title, Titanes de Barranquilla was surprised by the 5th-seeded team, Cali, in Game 2 of their Semi-Finals series. This was their first defeat of the season, which came at a crucial moment in the Playoffs giving their opponents the chance to have a shot for the final spot. Cali’s American duo, Andrew Young and John Merchant, came up huge on Thursday night as they combined for 39 points. On top of that, Hayner Montagno dished a double-double, 11 points, and 11 rebounds, for the final score, 85-77.

Unfortunately for Barranquilla, their top players didn’t perform up to their standards as Heissler Guillent dropped just 13 points, while Michael Hicks finished off with just 9 points for the whole match. Despite Ernesto Oglivie’s big night dropping 22 points, Barranquilla came up just short in the end after losing each one of the last three quarters. Titanes de Barranquilla won the overall title in each one of their seasons as part of the BPC. They are the huge favorite to win it this year as well, but they will need to put up some more work in order to get their fifth consecutive trophy.
