Who will Orlando take with the first pick?

The results are in for which lucky teams will be selecting in the lottery in the 2022 NBA Draft. The winners of this year’s draft are the Rockets, Thunder and Magic. The Rockets came away with the third overall pick, the Thunder grabbed the second and the Orlando Magic received the first overall pick in this year’s draft. Orlando fans were over the moon with this revelation as they have seen their team fall to the wayside in recent years in the league.

Many are wondering who the Magic will select with the first overall pick as they have young pieces spread across the entire roster. Jabari Smith would be a great addition to the squad as an offensive beast at the power forward position who can also hold his own on defence. Smith is the bookie’s favourite to go first in the draft as he has the highest skillset in the draft but another possible option that would fit the team nicely is the Gonzaga centre Holmgren. Although Orlando has a potential star centre in Bamba Holmgren’s game is incredibly different as he is able to shoot the rock with ease and has great handles for his size. The only issue with this is Holmgren’s slender frame which has been a cause of concern for a lot of NBA scouts.

Of course, the Magic could decide to swap the pick and try and expand their horizons through trade but as they have become a low market team in recent years finding a worthwhile trade for the number one pick may come with some difficulty. If the Magic decide to keep the pick they will have two number one drafted picks on their roster as they still have Markelle Fultz on the books. Fultz sadly has been one of the most disappointing number one picks in recent history as in college he looked to be a breakout star, this changed when he got to the league and unfortunately got injured. After Fultz recovered from his injury it appeared that he had forgotten how to actually shoot the basketball and this has had a huge impact on his career. Fultz is currently a bench player for the Magic which after almost five years in the league and the accolades he has earnt from himself is somewhat underwhelming.

Whoever the Magic pick with the number one pick they need to ensure that he is the right fit for the squad if they would like to return to their previous successes of the early 2010s.
