Bivol responds on Ramirez’s callout, says Mexican lacks merit as a potential challenger

Russian gladiator Dmitry Bivol has dismissed the idea of possibly fighting Mexican boxer Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez in his next fight.

Bivol, who is coming off an impressive win against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez earlier this month, said that while fighting Ramirez seems interesting, he would rather fight for more belts.

Ramirez’s name entered into the picture of Bivol’s next possible opponents after the Mexican called out the latter in the post-match interview of his fourth-round knockout victory against Germany’s Dominic Boesel last weekend.

“A fight against Gilberto Ramirez is also interesting for me, but it’s not my first choice. I’d like to fight for more belts first. But maybe it would be a good second option,” said the soft-spoken Bivol in an interview with BoxingScene.

The Russians’ team, however, reiterated that a potential rematch with Alvarez is the most attractive option for them.

At this time, though, Bivol has yet to engage in serious talks of a possible rematch as he is still finding a way to collect his payout in his most recent bout with Russian bank accounts currently inaccessible due to the war.
