Update: Ayala now in stable condition after emergency surgery

Published on

Mexican prizefighter Alejandra Ayala is now in stable condition after suffering serious injuries against Hanna Rankin in their fight last week in Glasgow, Scotland.

In a press release issued by her promoter Fightzone, it said that Ayala underwent surgery and is currently recovering without problems.

Ayala received a lot of punishment in the fight, prompting the referee to stop the fight in the 10th round. The ring doctors were quick to respond to her but when they saw that the fighter was unable to react, they decided to take her to the hospital.

The promoters did not reveal what she underwent surgery for but the Tijuana newspaper El Imparcial reported that it was for a brain problem.

“Following Friday’s WBA & IBO World Championship bout with Hannah Rankin, Alejandra was admitted to hospital in Glasgow where she has undergone surgery and is now reported to be in stable condition,” the press statement said.

Rankin also sent her well-wishes for the Mexican to get back to her feet in the soonest possible time.

“My thoughts, prayers and good wishes are with Alejandra and her family and team at this time,” said the 31-year-old Rankin.
