Gary Anderson admits he will have to beat the best player of all-time when he faces Phil Taylor in the final of the PDC World Darts Championship tonight.

Anderson roared into his second world final with a superb 6-3 semi-final win over defending champion Michael van Gerwen on Saturday evening, but the Scotsman is now preparing for an even bigger test against Taylor, who is hunting an incredible 17th world title.

Anderson said after averaging more than 102 in his win over Mighty Mike: “To me if you’re going to win a title you have to beat Phil Taylor.

“If Phil smashes me in the final then I’ve been beaten by the best player in the world, but if it’s a reverse then I’ve beaten the best player ever and that’s a bigger notch on my belt.

“Phil’s the best there has ever been and ever will be.”

Taylor also averaged in excess of 102 as he defeated Raymond van Barneveld 6-2 in his semi-final, taking four straight sets after being pegged back to two sets apiece by the Dutchman.

Anderson’s previous appearance in a world final came in 2011 when he lost 7-5 to Adrian Lewis, who went on to win a second title 12 months later.

Taylor, meanwhile, has played in 17 PDC world finals, winning 14 and losing three, with Van Barneveld, John Part and Dennis Priestley the only men to deny him on the biggest stage.

Harry James' love for sports began in his high school basketball days. Sadly, an injury meant he couldn't further his NBA dreams, but the hooper's loss is our gain as he then found journalism.
