Spanish daredevil Fernando Alonso remains optimistic about finishing the season strong despite retiring twice in the past four F1 races.
Alonso, a two-time world champion, suffered his second retirement at Imola on Sunday in just five laps when he collided with Mick Schumacher, resulting in damage to the floor and the sidepod of his ride.
Alpine called Alonso into the pits after part of the sidepod on the right-hand component was detached on the main straight, killing his hopes of picking up any points.
Nevertheless, Alonso said that he is not too worried about his current form, citing that he’d rather finish the season strong than the opposite.
“I prefer to finish the season better than start it good and then finish it bad. So, if you want to choose one way, it is to do it the other way around and finish on a better performance,” Alonso said.
Currently, the Alpine rider has only two points on his belt after races compared to teammate Esteban Ocon’s haul of 20.
