Aston Martin hope Sebastian Vettel stays beyond 2022

Aston Martin are hoping that Sebastian Vettel will remain with the team for 2023, with talks about a contract extension ongoing.

Vettel’s contract is due to expire at the end of 2022 and he has previously stated he will make a decision about his future over the summer.

Aston Martin Team boss Mike Krack confirmed they are keen for Vettel to stay: “We were always clear that if he wants to continue, we would like him to stay for long, yes,” he said.

“We are talking. We have a very, very good relationship, and it is not that we have to set each other deadlines.”

The four-time world champion joined the British team in 2021 after they were rebranded from Racing Point.

He was forced to miss the first two races of the 2022 season due to Covid-19 but has gone on to score 13 points and sits 14th in the driver’s championship. His best result this season was a sixth-place finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
