Lewis Hamilton confirms he will be available to race in Canada

Lewis Hamilton has allayed any fears that he could miss the Canadian Grand Prix and confirmed he “wouldn’t miss it for the world”.

After the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Hamilton was visibly struggling with back pain as he tried to get out of his Mercedes. This led to fears that the seven-time champion would be a doubt for the event in Montreal which takes place this weekend.

However, in an Instagram post on Monday, Hamilton provided an update on his situation after having a chance to rest. “Yesterday was tough and I had some trouble sleeping, but I’ve woken up feeling positive today. My back is a little sore and bruised but nothing serious thankfully,” he said.
“I’ll be there this weekend, wouldn’t miss it for the world. Wishing everybody an amazing day and week.”

The bumpy streets combined with the high-speed straight in Baku caused many of the cars to bounce, referred to as porpoising. The problem has emerged this season after ground effect was introduced to the design of the new cars. Mercedes have been one of the teams who have been particularly hampered by the problem this year and Hamilton was affected more than most at the weekend. Afterwards, he described the race as one of the “toughest” in his career.
