Perez makes podium in Australian Grand Prix
The 32-year old Perez clocked in at 1:47:67 to finish second to eventual champion Charles Leclerc of Poland, while Mercedes’ George Russell completed the podium by finishing five seconds behind the Red Bull driver.
Perez started slowly following an unexpected degradation on the medium tire but managed to pick things up on Lap 36. However, it proved too little too late as Leclerc pushed the pedal into the metal on Lap 39 to create a needed separation and secure the victory after 58 laps.
With the second-place finish, Perez climbs to the 4th spot of the 2022 Formula 1 standings with 30 points, just behind Spain’s Carlos Sainz Jr. (33 points) Russell (37 points) and Leclerc (71 points).
Perez hopes to sustain his momentum as he takes part in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is scheduled from April 22nd to 24th in Romagna, Italy.
