Sergio Perez considering possible retirement from Formula 1

F1 plans to expand calendar, faces backlash from Perez

Mexican racing driver Sergio Perez is considering retirement from Formula 1 if the tournament adds more races to its calendar.

Perez, who has been part of the F1 circuit since 2011, said that additional races would hamper personal time for racing drivers.

The 2022 season alone will have the drivers competing in 23 races slated between March and December. Rumors of adding more races have intensified lately with F1 already revealing that they have made a deal with Las Vegas to stage a weekend there starting in 2023.

“It’s great that Formula 1 continues to develop and grow. You can see it everywhere we go, people are starting to recognize you on the street more and more often. But if there are too many races, it will be bad. At least for me,” Perez said.

Perez and the rest of F1 drivers headed to Europe this weekend to battle it out in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which is the fourth race on the calendar.
