W Series to feature at eight F1 race weekends

The W Series, a motorsport championship exclusively for women, has confirmed its calendar for the upcoming 2022 season.

The series, which is about to embark on its third season, will appear as one of the support races at eight of the Formula One race weekends.

The news means that the series will continue to get a high level of global exposure as it forms part of the Formula One entourage.

The championship will kick off in Miami on the weekend of May 6-8, and will travel worldwide before ending the season in Mexico on October 28-30.

It will also see the championship visit Asia for the first time, at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka.

Ross Brawn, Formula One’s managing director, said: “We are proud to announce that W Series will continue to join us at eight Formula 1 races in 2022.

“It has been incredible to witness the championship progress as we continue to champion diversity across motor sport, and it is exciting to see the series will visit five new venues next year, including its debut in Asia.”

The female-only championship offers a dedicated stage for the drivers to showcase their talents and prepare themselves for higher-level racing.

All of the cars are identical in specifications, with the responsibility of car set-up and repair down to the teams that compete.

The previous two seasons have seen Britain’s Jamie Chadwick walk away as the champion on both occasions.

However, with Chadwick potentially planning her next career move away from the series, there is the opportunity for someone else to clinch the title.
