Luis Suarez to sign for Nacional

The short-term future of Luis Suarez has finally been resolved as the President of Uruguayan side Nacional has announced that Suarez will join the club on a five-month deal as he steps up his preparation for the upcoming World Cup.

Suarez found himself without a club following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid.

For Suarez, it marks a return to the club where it all started. He would make his debut for the club when he was just 18. He ended up playing just one full season before making the move to Europe where he signed for Dutch club Groningen.

From there, Suarez would move to Ajax before making his name with both Liverpool and Barcelona.

Now towards the twilight of his career, Suarez was still able to contribute, helping Atletico Madrid to the La Liga in his first season. Even with his game time limited last year, he was still able to score 11 league goals.

Suarez is Uruguay’s all-time top scorer and will hope to play his part in a successful World Cup campaign. It won’t be easy, as Uruguay will compete alongside Portugal, South Korea and Ghana in Group H.
