Luis Suarez to sign for River Plate

Published on

The future of Uruguayan star Luis Suarez looks clearer with the Uruguayan legend set to sign for River Plate. The signing looks set to be completed when Suarez returns from holiday.

Suarez finds himself out of contract after having been released from Atletico Madrid. It looks like River have won the race for Suarez’s signature despite heavy interest from Premier League side Aston Villa.

It’s been long reported that Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has had a desire to reunite with Suarez following their time as teammates when at Liverpool, but a return to South America and the promise of regular football in the lead up to the World Cup seems to have been crucial factors in Suarez choosing to sign with the Argentinian side.

Suarez has enjoyed a glittering career, and despite now being 35, he has shown during his time at Atletico that he can still be razor-sharp in the box. His goals were crucial as he helped guide Atletico to the La Liga title in his first season with the club.

Suarez managed a total of 35 league appearances in his last season with Atletico finding the back of the net 11 times.
