Palmeiras left-back Joaquín Piquerez watched by Spurs

Published on

According to a French source, Palmeiras left-back Joaquín Piquerez has interested Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur after showing some impressive appearances in Série A for Palmeiras.

The Uruguayan defender with seven caps for the national team, has shown a brilliant debut season for Brazil’s leading club Palmeiras. With 49 appearances, three assists and a goal, he has caught the eye of several European teams including Marseille, an anonymous German club and in particular; Tottenham.
With three and a half years left on his Palmeiras contract Piquerez seems to be tied up, but with the transfer window now open teams like Tottenham are going out in the market and giving managers like Antonio Conte what he needs. Piquerez’s speculative value is around £2.8m, whereas other players that Tottenham are considering such as Josko Gvardiol are in the ballpark of around £80m.

Piquerez makes himself even more of a likely candidate for Tottenham as he’s a versatile player, comfortable at left-back, centre-back and midfield. In the words of Tottenham he is very much ‘appreciated’, so it remains to be seen whether they will follow up their interest.
