The Pittsburgh Steelers’ search to replace departing general manager Kevin Colbert is finally over.
On Tuesday, the NFL Network reported that Omar Khan is expected to be named the new general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Khan was picked from a pool of finalists that also included Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt, Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden, Tampa Bay Buccaneers VP of player personnel John Spytek, former Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley, and Philadelphia Eagles VP of player personnel Andy Weidl.
Khan currently works for the Steelers as their VP of football and business administration. He began working for the Steelers in 2001, and the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says Khan has been “groomed” for years to succeed Colbert.
Khan will take over a Steelers team in flux following the departure of longtime quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, and the team’s selection of Kenny Pickett to replace him as under centre. The Steelers’ preseason opens on August 13th against the Seattle Seahawks.
