Wayne Rooney believes Harry Kane wants to break Premier League assist record

Published on

Wayne Rooney thinks Tottenham forward Harry Kane has one eye on breaking the Premier League record for assists and becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer.

Rooney was baffled that the striker, who he describes as one of the best players the Premier League has seen, didn’t start against the Ivory Coast.  He believes it would be better for England if Kane broke the record before the World Cup that begins in November.

The 28-year-old has 82 goals in 178 appearances and Rooney said: ‘I think he gets it.

Englands last goal was set up by Kane in the 62nd minute to ensure a 3-0 win, despite the Tottenham striker failing to score himself.

Rooney compared Kane’s scoring prowess to Italy’s Francesco Totti

The Derby County and England boss said: ‘The way Harry Kane is, he is very humble. And that is a good thing.

Rooney expects Kane to fail to get the immense recognition the 28-year-old deserves from fans or pundits as he’s not showy on social media.
