Two years ago, Baker Mayfield led the Cleveland Browns to their first playoff appearance in almost two decades. Now he can’t seem to find a team.
Mayfield performed poorly in 2021, tossing just 17 touchdowns against 13 interceptions. Seeking an upgrade at the quarterback position, in March the Browns traded for Texans star Deshaun Watson. The Browns made this move despite the fact that Watson faces more than 20 civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct and may be suspended for part of the 2022 season.
Following the Watson deal, Mayfield demanded a trade out of Cleveland. However, there don’t seem to be any takers. The Panthers, Seahawks, and Steelers all appear to be trying to acquire a quarterback through the draft, such as Pitt’s Kenny Pickett or Liberty’s Malik Willis.
The NFL Draft always features a flurry of deals and trades, and 2022’s won’t be an exception. Perhaps Cleveland will grant Mayfield his wish and exchange him for additional picks or assets.
