19-year-old Aaron Jarvis wins spot at Masters and Open

Aaron Jarvis has won the Latin America Amateur Championship and secured himself a spot at the Masters and Open Championship.

The 19-year-old finished the tournament, at the Teeth of the Dog course at Casa de Campo on January 23, with a three-under 69, making birdie on the final hole for a spectacular one-shot victory.

His trip to the Masters and Open will be the first for a player from the Cayman Islands, and the young player is unsurprisingly thrilled at his victory.

After his win, he stated: “I can’t even put this into words. What a day. It means the world to me.”

That final birdie was one of seven throughout the match for Jarvis, though his game was also marred with a bogey on the eighth, followed by a double bogey on the ninth.

The win makes Jarvis exempt from the final stage of US Open qualifying and means that his place is confirmed.

He will be playing on some of the best, and most difficult, courses in the country, and will no doubt be relishing the challenge.

Jarvis is a UNLV freshman, and has secured four wins and eight top-10 finishes playing in a range of events over 2020 and 2021, before his 2022 victory at the Latin America Amateur Championship.

His wins include the 54 Hole Junior Open at Celebration, the 2020 South Florida Junior Open at Naples Beach Club, and the 2020 CIGA Christmas Match Play Invitational at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in his native Cayman Islands.

His other achievements include finishing in second place at the Cayman Islands Coach Invitational and third in the JAGA Jacksonville Amateur Championship in 2021, as well as top-five finishes in the Scott Robertson Memorial Tournament and the Florida Boys Summer 54 Hole Major.
