Us Masters 2015 Rory Mcilroy Rescues Round But Masters Dream May Be Over Pictures

Rory McIlroy rescued his second round with some back-nine heroics on Friday, and the Northern Irishman admits it would take a miracle for him to leave Augusta National with the green jacket.

McIlroy had arrived at the Masters looking to become only the sixth man in history to complete a grand slam of Major titles, but things have not gone according to plan and he finds himself 12 shots behind leader Jordan Spieth at the halfway stage.

McIlroy needed an eagle and four birdies on the back nine to card a one-under round for the second day running, and he is under no illusion about the mountain he will have to climb to win the tournament.

“I would need to shoot a 14-under-par weekend and Jordan would have to play a couple of average rounds,” McIlroy said afterwards.

“Neither of those two things look like they’re going to happen, so it’s going to be tough. I’ll go out and try and play the best that I can and we’ll see where that leaves me.”
