Tiger Woods to take time off and ‘refine’ his game

Tiger Woods plans to take time away from the course to work on his game following his solid showing at the 2015 Masters at Augusta.

Woods, the 14-time Major champion, finished in a tie for 17th place at Augusta, having been a major doubt to even compete after a spell away from the game to work on his swing and his fitness.

And, despite being buoyed by that performance, Woods says he still has plenty of work to do on his remodelled swing to be able to challenge at the top of the game.

“I have a little time off and go back to the drawing board, work on it again and refine what I’m doing,” the former world number one told reporters.

“I really like what I’m doing, I got my distance back and everything is good. Now my short game’s my strength again, which is good stuff.

“Considering where I was after Torrey Pines and Phoenix, to make the complete swing change and rectify all the faults and then come here and contend, I am proud of that part of it. I just wish I could have made a few more putts.”

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old admitted that he had suffered a worrying injury when he struck a tree root during his final round on Sunday, adding: “A bone kind of popped out and a joint went out of place, but I put it back in.

“It hurt. It definitely hurt. I didn’t know there was a tree root there. I drove my hand or drove the club straight into it.”
