Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has been placed on the injury list after suffering from a right quadriceps strain on Monday’s loss to the New York Rangers.
The 21-year-old Franco has dealt with numerous quad and hamstring issues throughout the year.
“There’s some soreness in there but Wander’s a tough kid. I think he’d be the first to say that he wants to keep playing. He just didn’t know at what capacity or what level he could do that,” said Rays manager Kevin Cash.
Franco, who is coming off a season-high of three hits to go along with two RBIs and a walk against the Rangers, is a bit concerned about being placed on the injury list.
“It kind of scares me a little to go on the IL. I think that’s maybe why I haven’t been playing as well as I have been because I’m scared to go on the IL,” Franco added.
The Dominican star is expected to be out for a minimum of 10 days. He will be replaced by Taylor Walls as the primary shortstop in the lineup.
