Palacios selected in the Twins lineup, replaces Correa

Venezuelan shortstop Jermaine Palacios will have an opportunity to prove his worth after being named to the Minnesota Twins roster.

Palacios will be replacing versatile star Carlos Correa, who has tested positive for COVID-19 and is expected to be out for at least 10 days.

The 25-year-old Palacios was originally signed by Minnesota in 2013 as an amateur free agent before being moved to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018 as part of the blockbuster Jake Odorizzi trade.

Palacios struggled in his two-plus years with the Rays and was released in the 2020-2021 offseason. He subsequently inked a minor league deal with the Twins to put himself back on the prospect map.

However, Palacios will have big shoes to fill with the absence of Correa, who has been around the range of .279/.344/.407.

Currently, the defensive-minded Palacios is ranked by MLB as the 29th among the Twins farmhands after hitting .259/.340/.439 in Triple-A last year.
