Espargaro wins Argentina GP

Aleix Espargaro can finally call himself a MotoGP race winner, after securing victory at the Autódromo Termas de Rió Hondo in his 200th race.

The Spaniard made history as not only was it his first victory, but he also secured Aprilia’s first win in the sport’s modern era.

The 32-year-old started the race from pole and had a race-long battle with fellow countryman Jorge Martin. After they swapped positions several times, Espargaro took the lead with five laps remaining and held off Pramac’s Martin to take his first win.

Martin finished in second position with Suzuki’s Alex Rins coming home in third, making it an all-Spanish podium. It also meant that the first three rounds of the season have delivered nine different podium finishers.

The victory moved Espargaro into the lead of the Championship. He is seven points clear of South African Brad Binder in second place.
