Francisco Bagnaia overcame a poor start to take victory on home soil at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello.
The win for the Ducati Lenovo rider delighted the passionate home support as he finished ahead of championship leader Fabio Quartararo and Spaniard Aleix Espargaro.
Bagnaia started the race in fifth place but dropped back to ninth on the opening lap after a poor getaway off the line. He made good use of the Ducati’s superior straight-line speed and started to work his way through the field. He soon found himself in the lead by the end of lap nine and quickly pulled away from the chasing pack.
It was Bagnaia’s second win of the season, after his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix earlier in the month. The win keeps him in the championship hunt as he moved up to fourth in the standings, behind Quartararo, Espargaro and Enea Bastianini.
