Marquez fit to ride in MotoGP pre-season testing

Six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez returned to training in January and will be taking part in pre-season testing in Malaysia and Indonesia this month. Honda has confirmed that the 28-year-old Spaniard has recovered from injuries sustained last November as a result of a serious crash during training.

The crash resulted in vision issues that kept Marquez out of action for three months over the winter, but he is confirmed to be back to full health, and surgery will not be needed. Marquez completed his first day of testing at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal in January on an RC213V-S Honda. He then took to a CBR600 Honda at Valencia to continue test training later in the month.

Fans will be happy to see Marquez back to full strength after various injuries over the last few years. This is the fourth consecutive off-season that he’s been forced to spend time in recovery. During the winter of 2018, he required surgery on a recurring shoulder injury that had been causing him problems throughout the season, and a further operation was needed in 2019 when he dislocated the same shoulder again in a crash during the Malaysian GP qualifying rounds.

At the end of the 2020 season, Marquez underwent three different surgeries and a lengthy recovery process after breaking his right arm during the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez earlier in the season. The injury was exacerbated when he continued to try and persevere through the season and eventually required a bone graft as well as a titanium plate.

While his return to training will no doubt, please his fans, there will be many keeping everything crossed that Marquez makes it through the coming season without aggravating old injuries or sustaining new ones.
