Felipe Drugovich completes double race win at Barcelona

Brazilian driver Felipe Drugovich put in an impressive performance at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to win both races in the FIA Formula 2 championship.

The MP Motorsport driver won the sprint race on Saturday before following up that result with victory in Sunday’s feature race. The double win meant he became the first driver in the modern F2 era to take both race wins over the same weekend.

Despite starting the sprint race in fourth place, Drugovich made his way to the front on the opening lap and went unchallenged to take his second win of the season.

The reverse grid in the feature race meant Drugovich started from tenth place. He once again demonstrated his strong pace and was able to carve his way through the field. He pitted later than his rivals and, on fresher tyres, soon found himself behind pole-sitter and long-time leader Jack Doohan. He overtook the Australian on lap 27 with a move at turn one and didn’t look back as he won for the second time at Barcelona. Doohan earned his first F2 podium in second with Frederik Vesti finishing third.

Drugovich’s wins meant that he has opened up an advantage at the top of the championship and now leads Theo Pourchaire by 26 points.
