São Paulo signs agreement to host Formula E race

São Paulo set to host Formula E race

The FIA Formula E World Championship will visit Brazil for the first time after the city of São Paulo signed an agreement with the all-electric race series.

A five-year deal has been agreed which will come into effect from the 2023 season, pending FIA approval. The contract also includes a renewal option after this period.

“We are delighted that the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will be heading to Brazil for the very first time pending approval at the FIA World Motor Sport Council in June,” said Formula E Chief Championship Officer and Co-Founder Alberto Longo.

The race promoters have confirmed that the event will take place in and around the Anhembi Sambadrome, which has previously played host to the IndyCar championship.

This latest announcement could mean there are at least four new venues on the Formula E calendar for 2023. The series has already announced plans to visit Cape Town and Hyderabad in India along with a new race in Vancouver which had to be postponed in 2022.
