The Daytona 500 is reportedly scheduled to start at 19:00 EST on Monday following further delays caused by heavy rain.

The Daytona 500 was postponed on Sunday due to rain and water logging on the Daytona International Speedway and for the first time in history, the race was pushed back 24 hours.

The race had been scheduled to start at 12noon EST on Monday, but organisers had warned that the race faced further delays, and according to Yahoo! Sports, a 7pm start (local time) is now expected.

Organisers had spent Monday morning preparing to put the race back further, with warnings that the race could even be pushed back to Tuesday should conditions not improve, as race officials require a good two hours of dry weather to fully dry off the track.
