Ross Chastain found the perfect recipe to stay unharmed in the last lap in the 2022 GEICO 500 to secure his second season victory. Kyle Larson and Erik Jones were the leading drivers coming into the final lap of the race, but a risky maneuver from Jones to protect his first place from the flying №5 cost them the podium. However, Larson ended up in 4th place, while Jones finished 6th.
Austin Dillon took advantage of the situation and flew into 2nd place, while the winner from Bristol Dirt Race, Kyle Busch, took the last spot on the podium. Daniel Suarez showed remarkable pace throughout the race, but his №99 Chevrolet was forced to retire after getting involved in a wreck.
The 7th place for Chase Elliott allowed him to increase his lead in the Championship to 368 points as Ryan Blaney and William Byron continued their pursuit of the first place with 11th and 15 places in Lincoln, Alabama. Next week, the NASCAR Cup Series travels to Delaware with another 400-mile race at Dover Motor Speedway.
