Preview:

Canada will be out to make it six from six at the Ice Hockey World Championship when they face Switzerland at the O2 Arena in Prague tonight.

Canada take on Switzerland on the back of their fifth straight victory at the competition after overcoming France 4-3 to maintain their 100% record and secure a quarter final berth on Saturday.

Jordan Eberle deflected Brent Burns’ shot into the net for his second goal of the game on a power play to break a 3-3 tie with 10:42 remaining in the final period.

The forward was far from surprised that the French ran them so close in the game, especially after the Europeans stunned Canada 3-2 in a penalty shootout at last year’s worlds.

”Every year there’s a game where you’re in a real fight to get the puck in the net,” he told reporters.

”You have to find a way to win, and today we did that with our power play.”

The result leaves Team Canada top of Group A on 15 points, two ahead of second placed Sweden. Hosts Czech Republic are three points further back in third, one point ahead of tonight’s opponents Switzerland.

The top four teams in each of the two groups of eight progress to the last eight.

Switzerland are by no means guaranteed a place in the quarters, though, as defeat here and victory for Germany over the Czech Republic on Sunday afternoon would see the Germans draw level on nine points with the Swiss with one game to go in group play.

Germany face bottom of the table Austria in their final Group A fixture while Switzerland come up against the hosts.
